  1. Welcome to Sam Spade
  2.  
  3.     Sam Spade is a network tool suite, with some extra features for
  4.     tracking unsolicited email. It's freeware.
  5.  
  6.     This release (1.14) is a beta release, there may be bugs or
  7.     missing functionality.
  8.  
  9.     The mail sending and scripting features are new. They probably
  10.     have bugs.
  11.  
  12.     If you find any bugs please send me mail (spade@blighty.com).
  13.     It would be useful if you can tell me what you were doing,
  14.     and include a copy of any data involved (eg if it crashes
  15.     when pasting email headers, send me a copy of the headers).

  17.     Sam Spade has three sources of documentation:

  19.     Winhelp: A traditional windows help file
  20.  
  21.     Online Help: You can read the HTML Help online at
  22.         http://samspade.org/ssw/help/

  24.     HTML Help: The new format for helpfiles under windows
  25.         This requires Microsoft Internet Explorer (V4 works. MS claim
  26.         V3 works too) be installed (you don't have to use
  27.         it as your default browser, it just needs to be installed).

  29.     HTML Help needs OCXes installed. You will be prompted during the
  30.         install process to install them. If you are running Windows NT
  31.         or Windows 2000 and do not have administrator privileges they
  32.         will not be installed successfully. If so, log on as administrator
  33.         and run hhupd.exe from the directory you chose to install in.
  34.  
  35.     You can select between HTML and WinHelp by selecting
  36.     'Edit', then 'Options...', then 'Help'
  37.  
  38.     The WinHelp documentation hasn't been updated since 1.04, so is
  39.     somewhat out of date in places. The HTML Help version has been
  40.     updated to match 1.14, and has a lot more information.

  61.     You may redistribute the installation package (spade114.exe) as long
  62.     as you charge no fee for it. You may charge a reasonable fee for
  63.     media and distribution costs. You may charge any amount for providing
  64.     support.

  66.     If you're intending to redistribute it online, please don't. Point
  67.     to the home site at http://samspade.org/ssw/ instead so people are
  68.     more likely to receive a current version.
